This piece was inspired by KaLea, the southernmost point on Hawaii Island, a place said to be “like a rift in time”. The figure replenishes her bowl with light from the full moon. Embedded in the scene is cosmic grid geometry. At this spot there is a petroglyph of 3 diamond shapes with flowing tails (or wakes) which may represent three canoes in which the first Polynesians arrived. There are 5 small scratchings surrounding the glyph which feels like stars and a possible navigational context.
